NFL Alumni Golf Classic Benefits Abused and Neglected Children

KB Home, Lexus of Austin and the NFL Alumni Association Austin Chapter helped raise more than $177,000 during the 7th Annual NFL Alumni Golf Classic presented by KB Home. The two-day event, held June 18th and 19th, was a benefit for the Center for Child Protection, the only nonprofit in Travis County involved in the investigation of crimes against children. Since 2003, the tournaments have collectively raised more than $800,000 to benefit children.

The two-day event began with the Caring for Kids Banquet sponsored by Lexus of Austin at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch, which included silent and live auctions. The highest bid item of the night was the Lexus Champions for Charity Golf Tournament package which fetched $9,200 in the live auction. There were also several check presentations from KB Home, Lexus of Austin, and longtime tournament volunteer David Allen of Allen Financial Services.

“During these difficult times, it is so important that we continue to support the most vulnerable of our community,” said Ken Langston, Division President at KB Home. “This is why KB Home and its partners stepped up to make this year’s contribution higher than previous years. The child victims of abuse and neglect must have access to a place like the Center for Child Protection.”

The Austin Chapter of the NFL Alumni bestowed their annual “Man of the Year” award on Frank Denius, named Distinguished American by the Greater Austin Chapter of the College Football Hall of Fame and chairman of the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium Veterans Committee. He is a long-time supporter of The University of Texas football team and was one of the ten most decorated soldiers involved in the European Theater and the D-Day Invasion in World War II.

Former NFL players and tournament participants enjoyed the Hills Country Club’s Signature Course at the NFL Alumni Golf Classic. More than 30 NFL players and coaches participated in the event including Walt Garrison, Winfred Tubbs, Roosevelt Leaks, Tommy Nobis, Rayfield Wright, Bill Bradley, Jerry Sisemore, and Brian Jones. Lexus of Austin’s Team 3, made up of Steve Wedderburn Sr., Jeannie Moore, Glen Moore, Dan Ahearn and NFL Alumnus Boone Powell took the grand prize at the tournament. Each member of the winning team receives round-trip airfare and accommodations to attend the NFL Alumni’s 2010 Super Bowl of Golf in Maui, Hawaii. The second place team from Rainmaker Document Technologies consisted of Jarrel Maurice, Karen Rutledge, Thomas Rutledge, John Fink and NFL Alumnus Rayfield Wright. Third place was a tie between the Terrazzo & Marble Supply team of Jody Rotundo, Rick Serrano, Gary Miller, Steve Brown, NFL Alumnus Kerry Cash and Lexus of Austin Team 2 consisting of Maxine Roberts, Bill Lindner, Mack Massey, Terri Massey and NFL Alumnus Al Matthews.

The money raised will help the Center for Child Protection, a nationally accredited children’s advocacy center serving the abused and neglected children of Travis County. In 2008, the Center provided more than 1,500 children with forensic interviews, medical exams, crisis intervention, therapy, and family advocacy.

Austin NFL Alumni, KB Home and Lexus of Austin Raise $153K for Center for Child Protection

The NFL Alumni Association Austin Chapter, KB Home and Lexus of Austin helped raise more than $153,000 during the 6th Annual NFL Alumni Golf Classic presented by KB Home. The two-day event, held June 19th and 20th, was a benefit for the Center for Child Protection, the first stop for abused and neglected children in Travis County. The tournaments have collectively netted $298,000 plus to benefit children.

The two-day event began with the Caring for Kids Banquet sponsored by Lexus of Austin at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch and Pavilion, which included silent and live auctions and check presentations from KB Home and Lexus of Austin. The Austin Chapter of the NFL Alumni also bestowed their annual “Man of the Year” award on NFL Alumnus Roosevelt Leaks, former University of Texas All-American and Baltimore Colts and Buffalo Bills running back, for his outstanding contributions to the community. The big-ticket item of the night was a Golf Masters Tournament package which fetched $11,500 in the live auction.

The NFL Alumni Golf Classic hosted at the Hills Country Club’s Signature Course gave participants a chance to share a round of golf with ex-NFL players. More than 30 ex- and current NFL players and coaches made it to the event including Walt Garrison, Ty Detmer, Peter Gardere, Bill Bradley, Jerry Sisemore, and Brian Jones. Winning the tournament’s grand prize was the Silicon Laboratories team consisting of Mike Anderson, Michaelyn Farmer, Preston Wong, Rich Suydam, and NFL Alumnus John Haines, a former defensive back for the Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts. Each member of the winning team receives round-trip airfare and accommodations to attend the NFL Alumni’s 2009 Super Bowl of Golf in Orlando, Florida. The second place Hills Country Club team consisted of Jerry Schmeil, Jonathan Creath, Bob Bristow and Jerry Paulette and played with NFL Alumnus Phil Branch. The third place Rainmaker Document Technologies team played with NFL Alumnus Brian Jones and consisted of Jarrel Maurice, Thomas Rutledge, Karen Rutledge, and John Fink.

Austin NFL Alumni, KB Home and Lexus of Austin Raise $106K for Center for Child Protection

The NFL Alumni Association Austin Chapter, KB Home and Lexus of Austin helped raise more than $106,000 during the 5th Annual NFL Alumni Golf Classic presented by KB Home June 24 and 25, 2007, to benefit the Center for Child Protection, the first stop for abused and neglected children in Travis County. The proceeds raised represent almost a 30 percent increase from the previous year.

The two-day event began with the Caring for Kids Banquet sponsored by Lexus of Austin at the Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game Ranch and Pavilion, which included silent and live auctions and check presentations from KB Home and Lexus of Austin. The Austin Chapter of the NFL Alumni also bestowed their annual “Man of the Year” award on NFL Alumnus and chapter founder Jerry Sisemore, former University of Texas All-American and Philadelphia Eagle offensive lineman, for his outstanding contributions to the community. The big-ticket item of the night was a golf outing to The Lexus Champions for Charity Tournament at Pebble Beach, which fetched $14,000 in the live auction.

The NFL Alumni Golf Classic hosted at the Hills Country Club’s Signature Course gave participants a chance to share a round of golf with ex-NFL players. More than 35 ex- and current NFL players and coaches made it to the event including Don Maynard, Chris Duliban, Mike McCarthy and Dan Neil. Winning the tournament’s grand prize was the Maxwell, Locke & Ritter team consisting of Steve Harvey, Ashlee Martin, Steve Knebel, Dale Cox, and NFL Alumnus, Shawn Slocum, current assistant special teams coach for the Green Bay Packers. Each member of the winning team receives round-trip airfare and accommodations to attend the NFL Alumni’s Super Bowl of Golf in Carlsbad, California. The second place Britgolf team consisted of Phil Rawlins, Andy Capewell, Mike Maroney and Tim Moran and played with NFL Alumnus Bob Yates. The third place Rainmaker Document Technologies team played with NFL Alumnus Dan Neil and consisted Jarrel Maurice, Thomas Rutledge, George Gordon, and Mike Oliver.
