The 15th Annual NFL Alumni Caring for Kids Banquet, sponsored by Lexus of Austin & Lakeway and Golf Classic, presented by KB Home, raised nearly $340,000 to benefit Travis County child abuse victims. The money raised will help the Center for Child Protection continue its mission to reduce the trauma for children and their protective families during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.

“The NFL Alumni Caring for Kids Banquet and Golf Classic is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Dean Leipsner, Center for Child Protection Board Member and Golf Chair. “The NFL Alumni – Austin Chapter works hard for this event every year and continues to help us grow the event with new partnerships and new ideas that bring even more people together who support the cause.”

During the banquet, the NFL Alumni – Austin Chapter and Center for Child Protection bestowed the annual Couple of the Year award to Sanya Richards-Ross and Aaron Ross. Not only has this couple excelled in their individual sports, they have dedicated their lives to enhancing their community and the children who live in it. “Sanya and Aaron were the perfect couple to honor this year because they exude passion and compassion in everything they do, especially when it comes to helping the children,” Leipsner said.

The annual banquet also included a live auction, check presentations totaling more than $151,000 collectively from KB Home, Lexus of Austin & Lakeway and their respective vendors and a live draft announcement of the NFL Alumni golf team captains for the tournament the following day. Throughout the night, attendees showed support by committing $122,000 for child abuse victims.

The next morning, more than 30 former NFL players including Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Bill Bates and John Haines partnered up with team sponsors to compete for an all-expense paid trip to the NFL Alumni’s 2018 Super Bowl of Golf Tournament in Las Vegas. Grand prize at the tournament went to the Austin Lanehart Electric & Lighting team, comprised of Greg Lanehart, Matt Fisher, Chelsea Lanehart, Lee Roy Johns and team captain/NFL Alumni member Al Matthews. The second place team was from Sherwin Williams with team captain Bruce Collie, third place went to Lone Star Paving and Bo Schobel, and Landart America came in fourth place with team captain Tony Franklin.

A huge thank you to our event sponsors Lexus of Austin & Lakeway and KB Home for their help in making this event a success.
