Through their generous gifts of time and talent, the Center for Child Protection's volunteers fill important roles in the care of children and families. They greet and comfort children and families who come to the Center for a child's interview. They hold a child's hand while assisting the pediatrician's medical exam. They carefully supervise children whose parents attend classes. We also have volunteers who help us with data entry, who solicit sponsors for Center fundraisers, and perform many supporting roles that keep the Center running smoothly. Which volunteer role suits your talent and skills?
Our volunteer roles fall into three categories:
Direct Service Volunteer Roles
Direct service volunteers work directly with the children and families who visit the Center for Child Protection. Volunteers interested in the following roles are required to attend Volunteer Orientation, complete the application/background check, and attend the Volunteer Training.
Family Support Specialist
Greet children and families, assist in the distribution of information packets, and interact with children and siblings before and after the interview process. (Monday - Friday during regular business hours)
Group Therapy & Parenting Classes Volunteers
Provide childcare for siblings of children and parents participating in group therapy or parenting classes. Qualified volunteers may also assist, plan and participate with a licensed therapist during group therapy and classes. (Weekday evenings, mornings)
Medical Exam Volunteers
Assist a pediatrician who conducts medical exams for evidence gathering purposes on children who have reported abuse. Set up medical exam room, restock supplies, assist during exam process, clean up medical room at the end of the day, and follow-up with families. (Wednesday afternoons)
Graduate and Undergraduate Interns
Graduate and undergraduate students may participate in a variety of program tasks and responsibilities to assist with services to children and families.
Non-Direct Service Volunteer Roles
Non-direct service volunteers are vital to the daily operations of the Center for Child Protection. Volunteers help with data entry, special events, outreach, and other general administrative duties. Volunteers interested in any of the following roles must attend a Volunteer Orientation and complete an application/background check. These volunteers DO NOT need to attend volunteer training but may do so if interested.
Volunteer ShoppersShop for supplies needed by families in crisis and sort items and donations for distribution. Public Awareness Volunteers
Participate in a specialized speaker's training and seek out opportunities to share the Center's work with children with community organizations. Event Volunteers
Participate in all aspects of the Center's fundraisers from sponsorship solicitation and graphic design to creating decorations, event set up and more. Graduate and Undergraduate Interns
Graduate and undergraduate students may participate in a variety of program tasks and responsibilities including development, special events, public relations, marketing, and administrative support. Case Tracking Volunteers
Data entry of Center's cases. Produce statistical reports of children and families who receive services at the Center. (Hours flexible) General Maintenance Volunteers

Administrative Volunteers
Assist with a wide variety of tasks including mailing, data entry, copies, filing, scanning pictures, and related tasks.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
We truly enjoy having volunteer groups join us for a day and would love the opportunity to find a project for your Scout troop, school, corporate volunteer group, or church group. Organized groups do not need to attend an Orientation or Volunteer Training. Simply contact Volunteer Coordinator Melissa Soliz to learn of current group volunteer needs at 512-472-1164 or msoliz@centerforchildprotection.org.
The Center for Child Protection's Volunteer Program is supported by the DELL Foundation.
