We’re clearly using the term “celebrity” loosely here. Matt is far from a celebrity, but he has had the opportunity to sit next to celebrities fairly often through his work as the founder and owner of Fashion X Austin, Dallas and Houston.
Matt is most known as the “fashion guy” in town. For nine years, Austin Fashion Week has been his life’s work using his own creativity and a passion for bringing the community together to host high-profile runway shows helping to launch fashion designers’ careers beyond Central Texas. In 2013, Matt expanded the Fashion X concept into Dallas and again into Houston in 2016. In October, Matt, along with partners Lance Avery Morgan and Rob Giardinelli, launched ModXMan for the sartorial man in all of our lives.
A 5th-generation Austinite, Matt is highly connected to his community around him. His nonprofit work started when he, Marshall Jones and Courtney Clark founded Austin Involved 10 years ago. After serving as the organization’s only Board Chair, Austin Involved became a program under I Live Here, I Give Here and Matt joined that board, eventually rising to the Chair position again. Matt continues to serve on the Ballet Austin and Preservation Austin boards and on the DSACT development board. His companies are incredibly supportive of local nonprofit initiatives, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars and in-kind donations from events to various charity organizations.
When Venus Strawn finally asked him a third time to do Dancing with the Stars Austin, he could no longer hide in a corner. Though he’s terrified to go out on that stage, he knows it’s for an amazing cause and couldn’t be happier to embarrass himself in front of so many friends and family.
Matt lives in Austin with his wife Kara, daughter Sadie, son Cashion and dog Lola.
