Comparable to bluebonnets, these pinwheels are not for picking! In fact, they serve as a powerful symbol of prevention – which makes them the perfect fit for Child Abuse Prevention Month!
Last week, our staff members came together to plant 819 bright blue pinwheels in front of the Center for Child Protection campus. Each pinwheel represents a brave little voice that told their story of abuse during a forensic interview in 2022.
Here at the Center, we see 3-5 children every single day to provide them with a forensic interview which is the first step in the intervention process. Forensic interviews are a non-leading, developmentally sensitive approach to gather information from the children. Through the collaboration of the Child Protection Team, the child only has to tell their story once – helping to reduce the trauma they are experiencing. This trauma-aware approach allows us to to meet the emotional needs of every child.
These pinwheels are a way for us to visually represent our hope when it comes to child abuse prevention. With the support of our amazing Center for Child Protection team and YOU, we’re able to ensure that every child’s best interest is at the heart of the investigation process. As these pinwheels spin, let them serve as a reminder of all the children whose live’s we’ve impacted.
