At the Center for Child Protection, we believe healing should never depend on whether a family can get across town. Our commitment has always been to meet children and families where they are — emotionally and physically.

Our data shows that transportation is one of the greatest obstacles families face when trying to access therapy. To remove that barrier, the Center is opening a third therapy location in 2026, which will debut on Protect Austin Kids Day, April 8. The new St. Johns Therapy Location will expand access to life-changing services for children who have experienced abuse or witnessed violent crime here in Travis County.

For these children, therapy isn’t optional — it’s essential to recovery. By opening an additional therapy site, we’re making it easier for families to stay connected to the support their children need to continue healing.

Designed for accessibility, the new office will be conveniently located in north Austin, centrally situated within one of our primary client population areas, and positioned directly on a CapMetro bus route to ensure that “getting there” never stands in the way of a child receiving care. To better support working caregivers and school schedules, the site will also eventually offer evening and weekend appointments.

The Center provides free, trauma-informed therapy to help children process their experiences and rebuild a sense of safety. Through experiential approaches, including yoga, art, dance, gardening, and music, children learn to regulate their emotions, rebuild trust, and rediscover moments of joy.

Intervention isn’t enough; children need steady, ongoing support to truly heal and reclaim their childhood. That’s why the Center is committed to walking alongside every child for as long as they need us.

The opening of the St. Johns Therapy Location marks a significant step forward in expanding access to services for children and families throughout our community. This milestone is only possible thanks to the generosity and dedication of our supporters, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to better serve every child who walks through our doors.
