We are thrilled to announce that our CEO, Michael Torres, has been honored with the Best Nonprofit CEO award by the Austin Business Journal.

The annual award recognizes outstanding contributions made by chief executives in their respective fields.

This year’s winners were selected from a pool of 80 nominees across 10 categories.

Michael, who has been with the Center for Child Protection for more than 30 years, accepted the award at an event on October 16, paying tribute to the powerful partnerships that form the foundation of our work to Protect Austin Kids.

“This award belongs to all of us and wouldn’t have been possible without our friends in the Child Protection Team,” Michael said.

The Child Protection Team brings together child safety agencies across Travis County, including the Center for Child Protection, specialized law enforcement units, the Department of Family and Protective Services, Dell Children’s Medical Center, and the District Attorney’s Office.

This dedicated team works to ensure a seamless flow of communication across agencies when responding to child abuse cases in the county.

According to Michael, his and the Center’s success is built on the strength of these partnerships.

“I’m not on the frontlines of child abuse cases, making arrests or prosecuting in court, but what I can do is support our partners in these areas by giving them everything they need to do their jobs as effectively as possible,” he said.

“Together, we’re trying to make our little corner of the world a better place for children.”
