We’re thrilled to share some great news! We recently launched a Peer Support Program here at the Center, a crucial step in creating a healthier work environment for our dedicated Child Protection Team. This initiative is designed to address the often-overlooked mental health challenges faced by our team members.

Being a member of the Child Protection Team can present significant mental health challenges, including high levels of stress, vicarious trauma, and burnout due to the intense emotional demands of supporting vulnerable children and navigating complex, often heart-wrenching cases.

By offering this program to over 300 Child Protection Team members, we are committed to ensuring that every one of them receives the support they need, never feels isolated, and can continue providing the highest quality of protection for the children of Travis County.

Our Program Goals

Our Peer Support Team understands firsthand the stress of being a Child Protection Team member – because they’ve lived it. This team aims to provide support and resources to our Child Protection Team in the following ways:

– Serving as a vital resource during times of crisis.

– Fostering emotional health and resilience among peers.

– Recognizing and addressing conflicts with empathy and active listening.

– Encouraging and building trust within the team.

– Identifying early signs of distress and recommending appropriate interventions.

– Offering referrals to external mental health resources when necessary.

Breaking the Stigma

Our Peer Support Program is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting a culture where seeking help is seen as a sign of strength. By providing essential mental health support and addressing concerns about being labeled ‘unfit,’ we empower our team to prioritize their well-being. This focus on mental wellness enhances their effectiveness in their roles, enabling them to offer better care and advocacy for the children they serve.

We’re grateful for the dedication of our staff and the Child Protection Team. Their commitment to serving the most vulnerable is inspiring. We hope this program will provide the support they need to continue their vital work with passion.

Together, we can create a more supportive and resilient community. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. For more information about the Child Protection Team or how to get involved with our Peer Support Program, please visit our website here.
