The Center for Child Protection is dedicated to helping children heal from abuse — but we’re equally committed to helping them find reasons to smile.

And what’s more smile-worthy than celebrating a birthday?

For many of the kids we serve, birthdays can feel like just another hard day, especially if their families are navigating crisis, transition, or uncertainty. That’s why we created Birthday Boxes: cheerful, colorful kits filled with everything needed to throw a party and make a child feel celebrated and seen on their special day.

From party hats and streamers to candles and cake mix, each Birthday Box is packed with the essentials to help a child feel like a kid again — even during tough times. And if a child’s birthday falls while they’re receiving services, Center staff can even host the celebration on-site!

A Birthday Box might seem like a small gesture, but for a child who’s going through something really difficult, it’s a moment of pure joy. It’s a reminder that they matter and that their community cares about them.

We rely on community members and volunteer groups to bring these gifts to life: donating party supplies, assembling and wrapping boxes, and making sure each box feels festive and intentional. They can even add an extra special touch by selecting items that feature popular children’s movie characters, mermaids, dinosaurs, or other fun birthday themes.

When someone donates a Birthday Box, they’re not just giving a physical gift — they’re giving a child the kind of memory that stays with them long after the cake is gone.

Every child deserves a reason to smile on their birthday — and with your help, we can make sure they do.

Ready to spread some birthday magic?

Host a drive to collect supplies or volunteer to wrap boxes with your workplace, school, or friend group.

We accept donations of new, unopened party supplies and wrapping paper. For more information on what items we need most, reach out at give@centerforchildprotection.org.
